Sermon:  "Signs of Faith" The Second Book of Ruth

Scripture:  Ruth 2:1-23 (Related texts; Genesis 12:1-3, Leviticus 19:9-10, James 1:27, 1 Corinthians 13:8-13)

Focus of Sermon:  In the first chapter of the book of Ruth, we looked at signs of hope in the midst of Naomi’s bitter circumstances.  In the second chapter, we see famine give way to provision, as God provides for Ruth and Naomi through Ruth’s determination, through the custom of gleaning, and through the generosity of Boaz. In this chapter a new “season” begins and there are many signs of faith; both the faithfulness of people, and the faithfulness of God.

Action the sermon calls us to: Commit our lives and our ways to God.  To strive first for faithfulness to God and to seek first the Kingdom of God even in the midst of difficult circumstances.  Trust that God works for the good of those who love him (Ruth 2:11-12, Romans 8:26-28)
